St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser Coming up Soon

Carolyn Gevinski

It is  rare to hear of a person who has not been affected by cancer in some way, whether through family, friends, or themselves. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation puts all of their effort year after year into helping, focusing their efforts on a cure for childhood cancer specifically. By providing hospitals with high-impact clinical trials for rare disease types, funding researchers to work together, training researchers, and funding supportive care research, St. Baldrick’s works on many fronts to combat the disease.

Each year New Milford High School hosts a head-shaving event to raise money for St. Baldrick’s, and every year the event is extremely successful. Children, adults, students all gather together and shave their heads for a good cause. In the past New Milford has raised thousands of dollars and some community morale by getting folks to come out to “brave the shave”.

This years, the St. Baldrick’s event will occur on Thursday, March 16th. Anyone is welcome to come donate, shave their head, or volunteer. The event raises hope for a cure, and will surely be entertaining as well. Many of our clubs and activities will be helping in the St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser, including National Honor Society, DECA, NMHS Dramatics, and Key Club. So far, New Milford High School has raised $436 with a goal of $14,000. Many donors have already contributed, but there is still  a long way to go. Donate, or come “Brave the Shave” and be a part of the movement to extinguish childhood cancer.
