After early exits in last year’s conference and state tournaments, the Green Wave Field Hockey team entered this season with a chip on their shoulder. Their 5-2 start proves that this extra motivation is leading to fruitful results on the playing field.

While Pomperaug has proven to be the group’s kryptonite thus far, accounting for both losses, the Green Wave girls have compiled impressive wins in bunches. Their 2-0 triumph over Immaculate put a wrench in the Mustang’s attempt at an undefeated season. New Milford’s key to success has been their strong offensive and defensive play propelled by their elite midfield. To outsiders, this may seem like a promising start, but the competitive edge the team possesses has left them unsatisfied. “We have had a great start to our season so far with some of our big wins over our toughest SWC competitors,” declared Senior Captain Kelli Souza. “After the first loss to Pomperaug, we took extra measures in strategy and preparation and controlled the second game against them, even in a loss. It has been a good start but we still have improvements that we have to, and will make as the season continues.”

A current 8-2 record is nice for now, but the schedule holds more challenges in the future. The players are looking forward to completing the regular season with flying colors and are geared up to thrive in the postseason. “We are so excited to make a run in the postseason,” proclaimed Senior Forward Julia Quinn. “We have been successful thus far and we will continue to work hard to take back the championship in the end!” Be sure to support the girls as they fight to win the title that the school has went without since this year’s graduating class were freshmen!
